Hello Testers,
Ok...we're off on Release #2 - we hope this one is much more successful than the first.
I chose the weblog format for describing to you, all of you, how this new version of LetterRep works, primarily, because it gives you a chance to comment, ask questions, etc. Now, please understand that my blogging skills are lacking a great deal. If any of you knows about blogging and can suggest ways for me to improve our method of communicating on it, as on LetterRep.com itself, I will be more than happy to accept and implement your suggestions, as long as it benefits the group.
This message is just a short one to set up the blog and to send out the invites. I hope everyone will add this blog feed to their reader and help us communicate together.
More details about the new site in the next article...coming very soon.
Rob

Hi, Rob and all, I'm Jo or some other name I'll be given. I'm looking forward to getting to know my fellow letter writers.
Hi Rob!
Can't wait to see how this all unfolds. Shirley here. It will be nice to talk to other letter writers.
Hi Rob & everyone -- I am Chaz, a long-time writer with the site. Glad to see things are moving along again & I look forward to getting to work on the new site.
I've just been reading the blog & trying to make sense of the new setup. Looks like a total change from our last test?!
First up, I'm having trouble seeing a working chat box at the websiteforge url. I get an error saying that I can't access the tool either b/c it's being blocked by my firewall or b/c the chat server is down. I've temporarily turned off my firewall so it's not that. I guess the chat server is not 'on' yet?
In a separate post I'll address the material you sent in your 2nd blog entry, Rob.
I hope this run is successful & we can get to work changing the world one letter at a time. LOL.
Oops -- Chaz here again. I wrote my last post from another gmail account on my computer. All better now, signed up on my own account. Chaz (me) = copaseticasf!
Looking forward to meeting you all as we work together on getting the new site going.
Hi, As someone with 166 letters (I thought I had about 188 - did I lose some, Rob?) I panicked at this sentence "
On the List Custom Letters and List All Our Letters pages, you will see links entitled More About This Letter and Visit the Writer. These pages belong to you - you will want to start updating your More About This Letter pages for each of your letters as soon as possible. (More on that in a different post)." Will this be as difficult as it sounds? Jo
Hi Rob & Letter Reps, Mike here. Nice to connect:-) The new set up answers a lot of questions I had about interacting with customers. The split screen seems like an excellent method of doing this! Like everyone, I have firewall issues (not always) and there's an error with the downloaded chat console. But all else looks well --I look forward to going live.
@All,
Hi...we are getting closer. Today, Monday, the developers worked on the file that will import data from the old sites tables into the new. Wisely, they will not give me an exact timeline. After the data is input, the developer and I will make a couple of runs through the site to correct any glaring problems. Once corrected, we'll contact you guys.
@Chaz,
Hi Chaz. :) Thanks for checking in. The errors you might see on chat range from 'Connected!
We are sorry, but there are no LetterReps online at this time. Please call 1-800-504-3606 for immediate assistance. Thank You.
Connection lost!'
to
"Embeddedchat is unable to connect to the server."
In the first instance, the server is working properly, but no LetterReps are currently logged into the console, like the one you downloaded. (I'll be sending out the username and passwords for the console as soon as I get finished with this post.) Once logged in, the chat on the customer-side reads "Hello, I am a LetterRep. May I help you with a letter?" If you have two computers, check out the site after you log into console as a letterrep.
@Jo,
Hi Jo. Good to hear from you.
Actually, you do have 188 letters. The data you are seeing was imported from the live database in June. It is quite likely that you have uploaded 22 since then.
I hope, however, that you and all the writers/testers have kept copies of your letters...just in case.
To answer your question about the difficulty of editing the 'Writer's Summary or Excerpt,' I'll make a quick screenshot of the page to show you. Basically, besides having to type up enough detail about your letters to explain them to visitors without 'giving away the farm' is the only hassle. The Summary or Excerpt field appears on the submit a letter page, so if you are too busy, you can grap a few key phrases from your letters as an excerpt and post it in the block. This excerpt-text will appear as the description until you have a chance to get back to re-edit it.
Hi Shirley...hi Mike. Got your emails. Thanks.
Everyone, let me know your thoughts. More coming soon.
Rob
