Adding or editing the 'Writer's Summary or Excerpt field'

Hi All,

To answer Jo's question about updating the Writer's Summary or Excerpt field, about the only real hassle is having to edit, like in Jo's case, 188 letters.

On the old LetterRep.com site, the site automatically grabbed the first 125 characters of every uploaded letter to display on the letter purchase page, as the only part of the letter customers get to see in order to determine if the letter meets their needs before purchasing. As default, these 125 characters remain on the new site.

In my opinion, the limited amount of information about each letter was a major cause of customers failing to purchase, so it really might be worth your time, rather than going with the default 125 characters.

Here's the submit a letter page:

No big surprises here. This page, the 'Submit a Letter' page, is exactly like the 'Edit a Letter' page.

For letters already existing in your account, the first 125 characters of your letter will appear in this box.

Thanks Jo for the question. Sorry if it created a lot more work for you.

Hi Rob --

Are you around? Seems like my questions are flying by on the wind!

I'd like some clarification on writing our letter summaries. Are we going to be able to write summaries for the letters that have already been transported from the old site?

From what you've described here & in other posts, it sounds like we may not be able to alter what's already been exported from the old site? (i.e., since the already-written letters are not 'new requests')-- ?

My process on writing letter summaries got aborted when the original version of the new site got shut down. I have been hoping that we still have a chance to write summaries for our older letters!!

Chaz,

No...I wasn't around for a few days. Meetings and visitors in town took its toll on my time.

Are you going to be able to write summaries for the letters that have been imported from the old site? Yes

When the new site gets to the point I'm envisioning, the page to post a new letter and the page to edit any of your existing letters will be the same except for the saving options. A shortcoming of the old site was its inability to allow writers to change categories and titles. The new site will change to allow you to control all fields. In fact, it is likely that only three fields will soon exist: Category, Title and Letter Body. I've found that customers change the formats anyway, so we might as well just give them a letter in its entirety rather than spending time programming that will be wasted.

Glad to be back.

Rob
